A Story to Tell: watercolor series
My grandparents met while detained in a Japanese Internment Camp during World War II. I am grateful for their perseverance during such a dark time in American history because – when stripped of their rights as citizens – they still persisted in building a better future for this country that they love. Many internees talked about the suffocating dust experienced in such horrible living conditions. To replicate this feeling, I poured coffee on every panel. The dust seems fitting for such an easily forgotten event and my work reminds people that those who ignore the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.
100 cups
I made 100 stoneware cups, dipped in white slip and then glaze fired with shino. I wanted to see if I could make a larger display with individual pieces that were functional.
